I would love to see the GW2 servers crashing and burning and deleting all player's saved data as well as all backups and updates. Essentially, nothing should be left of the GW2 and it should be impossible to restore.

This way GW1 can once more get the attention it deserves as it still is the best game by far.

except that GW2 saved anet
and i'd never wish something like that, to delete someone else's fun like that
even if it'd happen, anet woudlnt be able to do much in GW, as they arent the same anet who listened to everyone, instead of the mainstream whiners with their "nerf everything and make the game way harder, cuz i completed the game already"

i dont like GW2, but without it, GW would suffer too

Oldish post, but wanted to echo it. Kamadan is more rife than ever with cheaters on full view. How hard is it to dedicated a small support team? If OS Runescape has one, GW can. Not that it will ever happen, just pointing it out.

Other than that, nothing to complain about really, since GW2 is the main focus for ANet, can't expect much.

You do know that those same exact servers run GW1 as well. That is why GW1 isn't in any danger of having it's plug pulled. It takes little room up on the GW2 servers.

i know!! lets advertise GW1 more, so they get enough money from GW1, so they wont have a choice but to look back at GW1

at 1 point GW2 wont be getting as much as it gets now, then if GW1 is almost as good to them, they may change their mind
....... yeah, its a dream, but not impossible

What Gadd said - which is one of the reasons why GW1 was down most of the launch weekend for GW2. What a fiasco.

Regardless, at this point in time, the more Anet leaves GW1 in running in peace, that's the best we can hope for. Does anyone here really want the current team doing anything with GW1?

I know I don't.

Nightfall was pretty much the swan song for the original team before they changed personnel and changed direction towards what eventually produced GW2. From what I understand, most of the dev team knows little to nothing about our game save from a few core people who still do the fix or maintenance to it.

Ultimately, the best scenario would be for Anet to make it possible to download our character information and play the game off-lline permanently. That's my ultimate dream. Hopefully, one day, there will be an MMO dev that does exactly that and changes the face of the genre going forward.

I had no issues with gw when gw2 launched...not sure which servers you were playing on back then....

and yes, the current teams over on gw2 know very little about this game other than its name and that is has some relevance to their own precious game.

If I recall, it was during the time the Euro players where having major issues. I couldn't log into GW1 all weekend (American Region). I didn't realize what the issue was until I put 2 and 2 together.

Perfect would be for them to release the source code and allow for private servers with modded code. This is probably not going to ever happen because some of the code is shared with Guild Wars 2, but as I see it, this is the only thing that could redeem the greatest video game I ever played.

Running private servers has always been another one of those oft requested dreams of MMO players. After all, many games with an on-line component allow for some type of similar thing as I have seen.

However, in my experience, the lack of such an option has always boiled down to "legalities." Now what those legalities are have never been mentioned so far as I have seen. But this very thing was brought up when Vanguard was shutting down.

Ultimately, I think it's just a matter of protecting the IP. No company wants to give out access to their IP where they would have no control over it, even if they many never use it ever again. Sort of like the kid who takes his ball home in a huff after some other kid on the playground makes him mad. From a business standpoint it is understandable, but nonetheless extremely disappointing to those who have enjoyed the game built under that IP.

Never gonna happen. Logins and passwords. With the current security craziness there is no way any private individual will obtain any personal data from company servers. If Anet did a single player game client which would be able somehow to extract your data from the server that might work but also that would require development so not gonna happen. We are at the mercy of them keeping the servers up....

I would just like to see most of the services offered in the online store become free and not subsidise GW2 .
